Well it is July 19 and I think its time that I updated you on the wonderful world of Alaska!  So two weekends ago Jenna, Michelle, Bri, Duvana, and I traveled down to good ol' Talkeetna for the Moose Dropping Festival.  However, before we arrived we made some much needed stops along the way.  We went to Anchorage and saw "Pirates of the Carribean 2: the dead men's chest"...soooo good...not as good as the first one but still very entertaining.  Afterwards we headed toward Willow which was 14 miles outside of Talkeetna.  We camped for the night which was my first time camping EVER and it was extremely fun.  I've decided that roasting hot dogs and Marshmallows and s'mores are my favorite past times up here.  After a long night...we woke up, got ready, packed up the car and headed towards Talkeetna where we just caught the end of the annual 5k run.  So in a nut shell The Talkeetna Moose dropping festival is a huge arts and crafts fair with some fun events on the side.  There was a parade to kick the whole event off that didn't run once BUT TWICE down main street.  After we perused the craft fair we stood in line for about 20 minutes or so to put in our bid on a moose dropping that would get dropped at 6 o'clock.  So basically how you did this was you went up to the booth and paid 5 dollars per moose nugget aka moose poop and then they put a corresponding number on each moose nugget you paid for.  Each moose dropping is shlacked and painted and the corresponding moose nugget is made into a pin that you can wear with pride!!  It was awesome.  So each of us bought one just to get into the spirit of things and each of us hoping we would be that lucky winner who could win a possible 1,000 dollars for being the closest to the X.  While we anxiously awaited the Moose dropping drop we shopped around, checked out the "Moose on the loose" auction that was going on.  That was fun because local businesses got a wooden moose and decorated them and then was auctioning them off some of them earning at least 500 dollars if not more and all the money went towards charity...sigh oh Alaska!  And then the time came , 6o'clock.  It was time for them to ever so gently rig up a bag of moose droppings that hovered over this X and at 6 the countdown began...and the moose dropping fell to the ground.  And this years winner was number 356...sigh...not 792 like I hoped but it was still a fun experience.  Of course Jenna and I got this all on audio and created our news story that aired on KCAM last week twice.  It was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had up here.  Other than that, I've been busy doing the same thing here at KCAM except this week me, Jenna, and Tim have the station to ourselves as the staff is at meetings all week this week for their annual conference....so we've been given the ultimate freedom...MWAH HAHAHAHAHA...well ok...we are professionals...no worries about that!  hahah...anywho, but being a professional still leaves room for pranks...tee hee...ok...I better go and do some work now...but just wanted to give you the update!  Later!

ok...so its time for your weekly update from me, Jane McDougall! hahah anywho, this week has been crazy because I have learned what it means to be "on call" at the station.  For those who don't know...let me paint a picture for ya...Being on call is when you are given a cell phone (sounds nice right?...just wait)...and you're given a key to the station to come and go (alright not so bad ....just wait)...and then if you're lucky they offer you a car (now don't get too excited its just for a week...then you have to give it back)....so whats the catch? you say to yourself...well the catch is is that if something goes wrong at the station aka...it goes off the air or the computer can't detect a high level of music..then the computer (also known as Theodore)calls the cell phone at whatever hour he pleases and sometimes waking me from a pleasant sleep...and I have to clear the alarm...and then if the radio isn't playing music on our station then sometimes I have to take the car down to the station and get the radio working while I am half awake and not thinking clearly.  sigh...however, despite the expected late nights and the weekend shift we are supposed to work when we're on call...it isn't so bad.  In fact the radio has been probably one of my favorite hang out spots here in Glennallen.  The people I work with are great and hilarious...radio isn't such a "serious" job...there is a lot of room for creativity and fun...and so many opportunities seem to have opened up since being here.  I've been doing the Midday report on KCAM which has improved greatly...I've learned how to slow down my reading pace so it's understandable...and I've had fun playing around with their CCM show Boomerang which airs weeknights at 8pm.
Another fun thing is making different spots for the station such as the fourth of July liners and sweepers that will be aired all day on tuesday.  I'm ecstatic about that...and making them is so much fun...the possibilities are endless.  Another exciting aspect of this job is how Jenna and I persuaded the staff into letting us go to the "Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival" this weekend coming up (july 7-9)...It will be the experience of a life time and we're going to create a cover story for the station to air and for us to keep a copy of...I'm so excited about it!!!!  It's fun just to experience new things here in Alaska and I'm excited to experience it with Michelle and Jenna!  Aside from work things here are pretty good...this week I had the privilege to house/dog sit for the Lewis, a missionary family that lives up here.  they have movies and a TV to watch them and its a nice change of scenery so this week I have been very thankful for that!  This week has shaped up to be a good one here in Glennallen... God is amazing and He keeps teaching me how to live and depend on His strength and the strength of His spirit empowers me to do His will..I'm so thankful for Him and His love!!!  I hope all is well with you and please know that I miss all of you sooooo very much and I can't wait to see you guys all very soon!

Hey Everyone!  So KCAM is having us jump right in to the radio biz this week.  I have been assigned to do the Midday report on KCAM which is basically reading news and weather for the afternoon and for the evenings I am going to be the host of their hour long CCM radio show.  Luckily it's voice tracked so I don't have to be there for an extremely long time.  Aside from radio, Jenna has arrived as of Monday night.  Michelle, Bri and I went into town (Anchorage) to pick her up.  However we did make a day of it and spent some time to stop for dinner and see a movie.  It's been awhile since I've been able to watch a movie.  We saw the Lake house it was pretty good.  Far fetched but good.  Anywho, other than that I've been able to blend in here pretty well at KCAM!  It's exciting and I am excited to put some creativity to work at the station.  They've asked me to work on some promos and ID tags for the station while I'm here.  It'll be fun to start working again.  HAHA funny story.  So yesterday I was reading the news for the midday report and out of nowhere my throat tightened up and I started choking ON THE AIR.  Luckily Scott ran in with a glass of water so I could finish the news cast but oh boy did it make a scene or what!  hahaha...it was pretty good.  and yes it would happen to me! hahah...oh well they're still keeping me around so I guess I'm not fired yet hahaha...well thats all for now.  I'll post some more news later!

So as of today I have been on air at least twice and I have a commercial in rotation.  Radio is freakin' amazing!!!!  One thing I've realized since coming up here is how personal radio is to the listeners out here.  WE are broadcasting to them in their home.  Its incredible just how people recognize your voice and act as if they know you!  Things here are going great.  Saturday I enjoyed a nice hike up the side of a mountain with the Glenallen team and PRBI (the canadians) team.  It was so awesome to be up that high and see God's creation below.  hahah I laughed when I saw the signs that described how to escape the grasp of a wild bear.  luckily though I didn't run into any.  Another cool part about the hike at Liberty Falls was climbing on the rocks to get close to the waterfall.  Oh yes I took tons of pictures.  We ended the hike with a campfire where I learned how to roast hotdogs on a stick and even how to strategically rap melted cheese on my hotdog.  It was so cool!!!  Another awesome aspect of this trip is the opportunity to have contact with local villages.  In my last blog I wrote about how I played softball with some of the local kids.  And yesterday I went to the same village and helped with VBS.  It was so awesome because the kids remembered who I was and I can see now the relationships with them growing.  One girl invited me to come and watch her do tricks on her trampoline.  So hopefully I'll be able to do that.  I also have prayer partners up here.  A family involved in radio.  It was great they had us over for ice cream and we got to pray with the Lewis' about this summer.  WE also got to play games with them.  I taught Becky how to play Egyptian rat screw.  they even said that they know how to play settlers of Katan.  And I am oober excited to play that with them some time soon!!!  what really took the cake was their three year old.  He is a huge fan of Thomas the tank engine and informed me that I needed "to get some trains" as soon as possible!!  He was a darlin'!!  hahaha one flaw though is that they don't share the same passion for the pistons as one should.  They informed me of standards in their household and that the pistons don't cut it!  hahahahah...oh well...I'll have something to work on this summer...right?  ahhaha well thats the update for now...I'm off to the station to work on some commercials.  Peace out everyone!!!!  WORD UP!

Hey everyone...it's me again!!!!!  So the past few days have been extremely long but extremely fun too.  So last night we all went up to Chapel on the Hill where we were all split up into groups and in our groups we were to come up with a little song number and then we were to lead the others in a song as well.  So I got placed in the Michigander group.  and we sang the funnest song and it went a little something like this: "Brown squirrel Brown Squirrel shake your bushy tale, Brown Squirrel Brown squirrel shake your bushy tale, crinkle up your little nose shove it down between your toes, brown squirrel brown squirrel shake your bushy tale" There are motions and everything.  I"ll have to show you some time.  Today was most exciting though because I got a chance to really hang out in the radio station.  Scott gave us a more in depth tour of the station.  I even got a chance to practice the weather reports by recording myself and playing back my efforts.   hahahah....anywho, everyone at the station is incredible and I'm looking forward to working with them this summer.  I also got a chance to play softball tonight with some of the local kids in Glucana (sp may be wrong).  It was so much fun and I got a chance to connect with some of the kids while we played.  My favorite part was when Carlita ran a homerun when the hit was only worth a single.  She was so determined to run all the bases. She was so stinkin cute!!!!!!  One thing that did annoy me tonight was the vast amounts of mosquitoes around here.  Now that the wind is dying down the mosquitoes are gathering in large swarms and tend to get in the way of life in general hahaha oh well its something I'll have to just deal with.  Other than that everything is great and I am learning a ton about God's gifts to us.  One quote that stuck with me was that I am a mortal until God calls me home and that is something I've been dwelling on for the past 24 hours.  God is amazing and in control of my life and that is the most incredible thing I have come to grasp since staying here   Talk to you all soon...later gator!
